01 The Official Hotel of "Kobe Suma Sea World" is Now Open!
Introducing the new aquarium, "Kobe Suma Sea World," situated on the former site of Suma Aqualife Park. As its official hotel, "Kobe Suma Sea World Hotel" celebrated its Grand Opening on June 1, 2024, alongside the aquarium.
With the theme "A Holiday Dreaming of the Sea," the hotel aims to provide a value-experience journey to the ocean. Taking advantage of its prime location facing Suma Beach, every room offers a luxurious ocean view. Premium rooms feature large aquariums and scenic views of Suma Beach from the view baths, enhancing the resort experience.
Guests at Kobe Suma Sea World Hotel receive complimentary tickets to Kobe Suma Sea World as a special perk. These tickets allow unlimited access to the aquarium from the check-in date to the check-out date.
Within the hotel, a permanent "Dolphin Lagoon" is home to dolphins. Guests can observe the dolphins' behavior from the lobby or their room balconies. Additionally, activities are available where guests can swim with the dolphins or learn hand signals.
02 Renewing Beloved Destinations: Enhancing Community Treasures
Kobe's Suma Ward is renowned for its natural beauty, nestled between the sea and mountains. One of the area's beloved spots for relaxation was Suma Beach Park and the Suma Aqualife Park located within it.
Affectionately known as "SumaSui," the aquarium had been cherished for over 30 years. However, due to aging facilities, it closed its doors in May 2023. The revitalization of Suma Beach Park commenced, giving rise to a new coastal resort park comprising bustling facilities such as shops, restaurants, an aquarium, and a hotel.
Yukiko Hashimoto, the manager of Kobe Suma Sea World Hotel, shares her excitement, stating, "We've received numerous comments like 'I heard there will be orcas at Kobe Suma Sea World. Looking forward to it!' and 'It's opening soon!' The anticipation from the community is palpable."
Manager Hashimoto, who has been actively involved in beach clean-up efforts and cleaning around JR Suma Beach Park Station even before the hotel's opening, expresses a renewed commitment: "Through collaborating with locals and participating in these initiatives, I've developed a strong desire to contribute to the vibrancy of this town, which holds the sea and the aquarium dear to its heart."
03 Community Legacy, Hotel Innovations
"Honoring Suma's natural beauty of white sands and green pines, we aim to reflect these characteristics in our new hotel," says Manager Hashimoto.
The red entrance doors are inspired by the "Red Lighthouse," a designated national tangible cultural property within Suma Beach Park. Inside, guests are greeted with views of Suma Beach through the windows, along with glass artworks resembling whirlpools on the pillars and LED imagery creating an underwater atmosphere, inviting guests into an otherworldly experience.
The pine trees, symbolic of Suma Beach Park, are integral to the hotel's design. "About 70% of the pine grove in Suma Beach Park remains unchanged from before the revitalization. To ensure that the trees cut down for maintaining proper forest density are not wasted, we repurpose them as benches in the hotel lounge and near the Dolphin Lagoon, preserving the park's essence through art," explains Manager Hashimoto. The hotel is also involved in cultivating pine trees to ensure the landscape is passed down to future generations.
The second-floor buffet restaurant, "Setouchi Harbor Restaurant," emphasizes local produce. The menu features delicious dishes made with Hyogo Prefecture's brand meats, vegetables, and fresh seafood, showcasing the culinary delights the prefecture has to offer.
From Suma to Hyogo Prefecture, the hotel's hospitality reflects the region's allure at every turn.
04 Creating Unforgettable Memories with Loved Ones
The Kobe Suma Sea World Hotel has been receiving numerous reservations, mainly from families, even before its opening, with some days already fully booked. Manager Hashimoto hopes guests will enjoy not only the aquarium but also their stay at the hotel itself.
"Our hotel's animals are carefully looked after by the Kobe Suma Sea World keepers. You might even catch glimpses of the animals and their caretakers in their daily routines. It's recommended to fully enjoy the aquarium on the first day and spend the second day leisurely at the hotel the dolphins and water tank fishes. For three generations of families visiting, grandparents can relax in the rooms while parents and children can explore the aquarium or repeat favorite activities at their own pace. This flexibility is one of the highlights of our hotel."
There are plans to organize events in collaboration with Kobe Suma Sea World and Suma Beach Park in the future, aiming to enhance the entire town through diverse collaborations.
"Just as SumaSui was loved by families for generations, we aspire for the new aquarium and our hotel to become cherished establishments for years to come. We, the staff, will wholeheartedly provide hospitality to ensure families and loved ones have a special time together."
With Suma's beautiful nature, the rejuvenated aquarium, and the warmth of community-based hospitality, why not create special memories at the Kobe Suma Sea World Hotel, overflowing with diverse attractions?
