Grand Opening of the Ginza Grand Hotel

A Modern Grand Hotel That Incorporates the Value of Ginza

May 9, 2014

ニュースリリース  Ginza Grand Hotel

GRANVISTA Hotels & Resorts Co., Ltd (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; president: Sadanori Suda) has completed the large-scale renovation of Hotel Com's Ginza, and on May 9, 2014 the grand opening took place of the renamed Ginza Grand Hotel. Based on its corporate vision of "Local value for the global future" and using its experience in hotel management, GRANVISTA aims to convey the original value of Ginza while creating new value in terms of the district's contemporary appeal toward achieving a sense of unity with the local area.

The name "grand hotel" has long been in use in Europe, and in Japan too it has signified a forum where local dignitaries could meet. However, times change, and so too the concept of the grand hotel has had to develop. In modern society, the city is a place of connection, of love and of interaction. From that interaction develops the appeal of a new kind of city. Through the strong desire to transmit that appeal both nationally and internationally, GRANVISTA selected that name for the hotel.

The recent renovation has paved the way for a number of globally active innovators to make their mark on the Ginza Grand Hotel. Interior designer Shigeru Uchida has designed the entire hotel. Master chef Takahiko Ozawa has brought his innovative French cuisine to the hotel's restaurant. Fashion designer Norio Surikabe designed the uniforms for the hotel staff. Textile designer Masaru Suzuki produced the artwork within the hotel.

General manager of the hotel is Yayoi Naka, whose career in the hotel business has seen her working in a number of prominent establishments before joining GRANVISTA. It is exceptional in Japan for a major hotel chain to hire a young woman as general manager of a key establishment. GRANVISTA believes that its decision in opening a major management position to a woman will be of great significance in Japan's hotel industry.

Those aspects of the Ginza Grand Hotel that make the strongest impression on guests can have a positive effect on the GRANVISTA group as a whole. This is particularly true of the directly managed Northern Terrace Diner Tokyo. The first floor is the open-style lounge of the Terrace Cafe and Bar. The first basement floor features casual dining. The cuisine is under the direction of Takahiko Ozawa, owner-chef of the acclaimed Ozawa restaurant in Tokyo's Shirogane district, who produces the casual-style fare of "Tokyo French." This is based on organic, chemical-free vegetables and farm-fresh seasonal produce. With an open kitchen located at its center, the restaurant offers customers the possibility of selecting a dish of their desire of grilled, fried or steamed ingredients at their seasonal finest. In addition, the café space on the first floor is a place where other guests and locals can get together. It is a place for people in Ginza to meet at any time, and it will host a variety of events.

The Ginza Grand Hotel is actively involved in GRANVISTA's social activities in the form of the Shaping the Global Future Project, which aims to achieve effective hotel management while considering sustainability and nature. This involves selecting products for guestroom amenities that are biodegradable and are manufactured in processes that take animal welfare into consideration. Toward sustainable production and consumption, all the coffee used at the hotel is made from beans produced on Rainforest Alliance Certified farms.
